Grand Convocation 2018

July 11 -15, 2018

Nareg-Shavarshan Tahlij #6 and Zabelle Otyag #12 invite you to the 100th Avak Tahlij and 78th Kerakouyn Zhoghov in Dearborn, MI. We have hosted convocations in 1955, 1967, 1973, 1981, 1994 and 2007. It will be our pleasure and honor to host you again in 2018. We are excited that our Brothers and Sisters will be coming to Dearborn. We had our first 2018 Convocation Committee Meeting on August 11, 2016. We have had several meetings and now are in the process of fine tuning the arrangements for a wonderful week of social events to complement the meetings and workshops. We want to make your stay welcoming and comfortable.

We are planning a Tour on Wednesday, Thursday Evening Dinner with Entertainment, Friday Daughters Luncheon, Friday Armenian Night Dinner & Dance and the Saturday Gala, which will close out the 100th Avak Tahlij and 78th Kerakouyn Zhoghov.

We selected the The Edward hotel in Dearborn, MI as our 2018 venue. It is centrally located between downtown Detroit and Detroit Metro Airport – 15 minutes travel time. The accommodations are nicely appointed and comfortable. NS Ken Khezarjian, Co- Chair negotiated a room rate that cannot be beat – $95.00 + tax per night including breakfast. Breakfast for a 2nd person in the room will be $12.00 per day. Reservations can be made by phoning The Edward at 313-592-3622 or via internet at www.hotel-dearborn.com.

The grounds of the hotel are beautifully groomed and welcoming. The amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi, Gift Shop, Laundry/Dry Cleaning, 24-hour Fitness facility, heated indoor pool, sauna and hot tub. The Brew Café offers Starbucks coffees, sandwiches, fruit, pastries, salads and more. Fine dining in Giulio & Sons Restaurant features regional Italian cuisine. The Archimedes Piano Lounge will be a gathering place after our evening events.

Dearborn is the home of the Armenian Research Center at the University of Michigan Dearborn, Ford Motor Headquarters, The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village and the Fairlane Center Shopping Mall. We have four Armenian Churches in the Detroit Metro area – the Armenian Congregational Church, St. John Armenian Church, St. Sarkis Armenian Church and St. Vartan Catholic Church. The City of Detroit is going through a renaissance with many points of interest – Belle Isle Park, Casinos, restaurants, theaters, Motown Museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts and the River Walk. If you are staying for a few days, bring your passport. Windsor, Ontario, Canada is our sister city – just across the Detroit River.

Join us July 11 -15 for the 2018 Knights of Vartan and Daughters of Vartan Grand Convocation. Let us show you Hye times in the Detroit Metropolitan Area.
