With the recent events taking place in Armenia and Artsakh, the Knights of Vartan Nareg-Shavarshan Lodge of Greater Detroit, in addition to their monetary donation to the Hayastan All Armenia Fund, felt it was necessary to do something more. Coincidently, one of the Lodge’s newest members, Greg Baise, approached Commander Kazar Terterian and proposed the idea of a possible donation of medical supplies from World Medical Relief (WMR) whose headquarters are located in Southfield, Michigan; it turns out, Baise, a Pharmacist by profession, is on the Board of Directors of the organization.

Avak Sbarabed’s message on Boston Marathon explosion

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As you are all aware of by now, almost exactly 24 hours ago a cowardly act took place at the finish line of the annual Boston Marathon. The twin bombings took three innocent lives, wounded dozens of others and transformed countless lives. The all too familiar scene was horrific and troubling. We pray for the victims and their families and hope for a speedy and just conclusion to this latest attempt to disrupt the American way of life.

I want to inform you that all Armenian-Americans in the area are safe and unharmed. As you know, metro Boston is home to one of the largest concentrations of Armenians in our country. In addition to your Boston based Avak Tivan, numerous others work and live in the immediate area, and, of course , Armenian Churches, institutions and families call the region their home. With the grace of our Lord, we continue to thank Him for our many Blessings.

As we approach the most solemn week of the year for all Armenians, let us join in prayer for the safety, peace and well-being of all humankind.
